EV Charging - How it Works

The UK’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is continually growing and changing shape to meet the needs of EV drivers. EV Clouds are owned by companies, public entities and private homeowners. Anyone can connect, which allows the network to grow and give you better coverage.

Zap Map

Zap-Map is a UK-wide map of EV charging points, it aims to help EV drivers locate and navigate to the next available charge points. You can use the search filters, which includes a list of nearby chargers, detailed info on each charging point, Zap-Chat community feature and a smart route-planner.

Through the data collected to drive the Zap-Map app, Zap-Map tracks these myriad changes to provide the EV charging statistics. Check out the reports as they are updated on a monthly basis.

The network of public chargers continues to grow at an incredible rate. Zap-Map reports a total of 32663 charging points in 19960 different locations nationwide (June 2022).

Smartphone App

Many public charging station operators also have a mobile phone app that allows you to pay for the service and track your monthly spending.

Contactless

Contactless payments are increasingly common at public chargers, and work much like an RFID card to allow faster payments through your smartphone or contactless enabled bank card.

Subscription Models

As EV uptake has increased, more charge point providers have decided to offer subscription-based charging models.

Radio Frequency Identity Cards (RFID)

Traditionally, charging operators would supply an electric car charging card known as an RFID card.

Public EV Chargers

Public EV chargers can be found at service stations, car parks, supermarkets, cinemas, even just at the side of the road.

We make every effort to look after our customers and make sure their experience with us is the best it can be, therefore, if we are putting our customers in the hands of an external EV charger install contractor that is the best compliment I could pay to that contractor. EMR Electrical Services are our chosen EV charger install contractor
