Jon’s introduction to the industry was as apprentice electrician for the Trebor confectionary group.
"I was very lucky, the chief engineer believed in allowing the time off the shopfloor and paying for as much training as an apprentice wanted. So on top of the two parts city and guild electrician certificates I went on to do the technicians 'C' certificate and the TEC 2 electronics certificate."
Since those days Jon went on to provide technical support for music touring productions as production manager with artists like Toto, Alan Parson Project and Katie Melua.
Leaving the music industry and back in the electrical contracting world, Jon built a successful Electrical/Mechanical contracting business focussing on serving Schools, hospitals and public buildings, which includes new builds, servicing, maintenance and fault finding.
Jon went on to project manage ICP works, installing sub stations up and down the country to assist with upgrade of the UK’s national grid infrastructure. More recently, he has been involved in the project management of the construction of EV charging hubs of many of the UK’s motorway service station network for clients including Gridserve, ROADCHEF AND MOTO.
"The industry has changed a great deal since my days as an apprentice but what has stayed with me is the importance of understanding the engineering behind all the regulations and requirements demanded of the modern electrician. We must understand why the tick boxes are there and not just be happy to provide a tick or a cross."
EMR was born, when Andy Peek (see biog) and Jon met as working musicians in the clubs, pubs and venues of deepest darkest Essex. The Ethos of the company was (as they both had learnt with experience) about getting the exact right people for the right job and making sure they are happy in their work. As a result EMR has a very carefully handpicked team that has been stressed tested with years of experience and expertise.

Andy completed his Tec 2 Electronic/Electrical engineering course at West Ham Technical College and went on to join Cobelectrix Ltd (COB) the UK distributer for Muller & Weigert GMBH & Co
"I was asked by the head lecturer at the college to go for an interview with a London based electrical instrumentation company (COB), they were looking for a Sales Assistant to work alongside the Sales Manager. The interview proved successful and I joined a team of dedicated and extremely professional individuals. The Managing Director and business entrepreneur Colin Oldfield Box gave me a lot of business advice which I still draw on to this day"
Like most things life takes many twists and turns and after a couple of years Andy found himself embarking on a new career in music. Having played drums since the age of 7 music had always been a huge passion for Andy and a chance to play professionally was finally realised. Tours and recording sessions followed and a dream was realised.
On leaving the music business Andy went back to Cobelectrix who had promised “that the door was always open” and returned as Sales Manager and continued for the next few years.
The next twist was in 1998 when Andy Established Retail Development Instore Ltd (RDIS) www.retaildis.co.uk. A manufacturer of Point of Sale Displays. Drawing on his technical knowledge Andy invested in new laser technology for cutting and engraving into Perspex and built a strong customer base within the retail supply industry. The company continues to this day working with many brands such as Samsung, Sainsburys, Estee Lauder.
Alongside running RDIS Andy continued to play and work with professional musicians which is where he met Jon Durno. Andy and Jon having common interests and business ethics drew on their respective expertise and formed EMR. Good people, foresight and the ability to adapt are just some of the things that EMR believe in.

Shanaaz has a European Marketing degree and a wealth of experience in Sales. Starting her career at BT, opened several doors and opportunities but sales was always her focus and something she is very passionate about.
